Heck no! Dr. Seuss is appropriate, Goodnight Moon is appropriate...even Harry Potter, but nothing published by the WTBTS is appropriate for children (or adults)!!!!!

Is the "My Book of Bible Stories" appropriate reading for Little Ones?
by Princess Daisy Boo inmy little boy, aged 4 1/2 loves his bedtime stories, and also loves "jesus stories" as he calls them... .
now, i have never gotten around to going to a book store and actually buying a childrens bible story book from the shops (yes...i still have a bit of a mental block and some deep seated issues about any religious literature).
my mom gave my kids a copy of the bible story book, as well as listening to the great teacher (the new soft cover book - think it is called that?

origins matter...foundations don't...jesus said they did.............
by oompa inwe all know dubs can't do any holidays because they are pagan or such.
even though nobody doing the holiday knows crap about the origin and is not doing it for that historical reason.. so why do dubs say our old teachings of the 1880-1950's don't matter?
because the light has gotton brighter and those old brothers went through a cleansing of thier teachings.

Good catch Oompa. I have used that argument (omitting the bible verse) with hubby. He was going on and on about holdiays and I said, what do you care about origins? Your religion was founded by some guy from Pennsylvania and they even used to celebrate Christmas... I got the pat JW response, "we don't do that now". Origins only matter to JW's when it's someone elses origins.
It's weird how that mind-set grabs JWs, that history really doesn't matter. I was in counseling with hubby and he didn't want to talk about our history that had gotten us into therapy...root cause type stuff, because that was "done". They train their minds to only look at "present truths" and that's all they can see.

Would You date a black man or black woman?
by Save My Soul inmy sister-in-law is recently divorced and went to a witness online dating site.
she mentioned that many of the witnesses specified that they wanted a white or latino only.
of course there is nothing wrong with this (personal preference), but i found it interesting.

Would and have. Daughter #1's daddy is black and hubby is mixed (mom black, dad white). To me, race, nationality, color, ahem, religion...doesn't matter as long as you're a good person who I get along with and like to be with.

I'm really conflicted! I was in a band and we did Comfortably Numb. I hate the song...I love Van Morrison and am not a big Pink Floyd fan...so here's the conflict...David Gilmour gave me goosebumps in that video and I think Van stunk it up with his part! Van's getting old I think...

Goodness Gracious, welcome and I feel your pain. I, too, was never a JW but have married one who decided to go back after we were married. Good luck. It's a long hard road.

I'm dealing with a hard core JW hubby...yes on some days I do subscribe to defeatism...some days optimism...other days pessimism...UGH, I give in, I am a victim of ISM's! They're everywhere!

I suppose, my anti "ism" stance could also be called an "ism", since, "ism" denotes a belief system, does it not?
Precisely!We're doomed, aren't we? :o)

Ah, yes, my dear nvr, but still, atheism is an "ism". I suppose, my anti "ism" stance could also be called an "ism", since, "ism" denotes a belief system, does it not? I just have not formalized my group yet... I'm on my way now to look for followers. I have a pamphelt I'll be giving out door-to-door.

WTS Higher Education Policy
by besty ina couple of topics recently have made me think about exactly how cynical are the wts when it comes to their higher education policy for the rank and file.. first one was mavie's about her forthcoming jc which prompted me to flick through richard dawkins the god delusion.
dawkins quotes from a study published in mensa magazine 2002; .
"of 43 studies carried out since 1927 on the relationship between religious belief and one's intelligence and/or educational level, all but four found an inverse connection.

Funny story: In a recent discussion with my JW, he admitted to me that he was (his words) "dumb". Yet, he expects to be the "head" of the household and have me (a college educated, skeptical girl) not argue or disagree with him in any way. After his confession that he's "dumb", I said "well, I'm not, so you should listen to me".
Silly me, though, he'll never listen to me because I don't have WTBTS tatooed on my forehead!!
